Arts in Education
The National PTA believes the arts – photography, music, literature, dance, drama, and visual arts are central to learning. This committee coordinates the PTA Reflections art program in the fall. The Reflections program is kicked off with National Arts in Education Week in September. Ideas for new ways to promote arts in education are welcome!
Do you want to share the love of reading with students? Volunteer to host book club sessions once a week (Oct-April) during lunch periods for a small group of students in either 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade. You chose the day best suited for your schedule. Training, resources, and books provided.
Brookwood’s Carnival is PTA’s principal fund raising event and provides nearly all of our special purchase funds. Carnival needs volunteers to help with games, decorations, food, silent auction, set-up/take down, Watch DOGS, and basket drawings. Each year, we strive to underwrite the cost of hosting carnival through sponsor donations.
Brookwood PTA sponsors many before and after school clubs. Parents interested can get involved with helping with Garden Club, Makerspace and Student Leadership.
We work with the local business community to coordinate PTA fund raising opportunities including Spirit Days/Nights and business sponsorship of carnival. We welcome ideas for business sponsors. This committee also coordinates the Box Tops for Education effort.
Field Day is Brookwood’s annual school-wide celebration, filled with relay-type events and activities. Volunteers are needed to be event coordinators and to help plan, set-up, and take-down for this fun-filled spring day!
Fifth Grade Programs
Do you have a 5th grader this year or do you enjoy party planning? Interested parents can get involved in the planning and set-up of the 5th Grade Pool Party farewell send-off. This fun-in-the-sun day takes place during the last weeks of school at the neighborhood pool.
Our annual Brookwood Fun Run is an exciting event for our students. Volunteers are needed for packet pickup, set-up, start/finish line, water tables, sponsoships, and clean-up.

The monthly PTA Newsletter, Brookwood Buzz, is created to promote PTA activities and school programs, to support activities by sharing information, and to create community through communication. The Newsletter editor communicates with the PTA Executive Board and the Principal for upcoming news or submissions and creates the newsletter monthly. The editor also closely communicates with the Principal, Webmaster and Social Media volunteers to ensure dissemination of information through multiple outlets. We welcome ideas for information to be included in the newsletter.
Parent Volunteer Coordinator
Many volunteers are needed throughout the year to help our school provide a great environment for our children and assist our teachers. This committee helps coordinate these volunteers for Helping Hands, Parent Involvement, Literacy Library, Book Fair, Culture Club and other PTA and/or school needs throughout the year. Volunteers may be asked to help prepare a craft for teachers, coordinate a lunch with teachers, support existing committees that need a little more help, and many more different things. Helping Hands volunteers help the teachers with copies, laminating, cutting, and more.

Programs & Education
PTA strives to deliver relevant, informative and interesting parent education programs that will increase participation and enhance the “PTA Experience” for attendees. We welcome ideas for programs from any PTA member, however, no additional volunteers are needed for this committee.
Red Ribbon Week/ Health & Safety
Red Ribbon week is held in October. This program touches all grade levels to emphasize the dangers of substance abuse. Volunteers decorate the school and plan daily activities for the week.
Room Rep Coordinator
Two volunteers are needed to be room representatives for each classroom. Room Representatives act as liaisons between PTA and the classroom by distributing important information regarding upcoming events and communicate messages from the teacher. Room Representatives also coordinate volunteers for events such as classroom parties, field day, carnival, and computer lab. The position is a good way to get to know your children’s teacher, friends, and parents. Sign up to be a room representative and join the fun!
Volunteers are needed in the fall to help select recipients of scholarships for Brookwood staff and their continuing education. In the spring, volunteers help select scholarship recipients for graduating seniors who attended BWE. It’s fun to see what our Bears go on to achieve!

The chair also develops, sends and collects the order form to/from the parents. The committee chair distributes supplies to classrooms before the first day of school. No additional volunteers are needed for this committee.
This year the PTA may have the opportunity to purchase items for the school with funds raised at the PTA carnival. The Special Purchases Committee gathers suggestions for items to purchase. Committee members will assist in researching need, benefit, products and pricing information for suggestions received from the PTA membership.
The foundation for being a great student leader starts in elementary school. Through this program we hope to encourage the development of individual strengths and leadership styles while involving our students in collaborative experiences, teamwork and networking with peers. Meetings will begin in October.
